Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research

The Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI) is an international biomedical research center with 340 members, including 180 postdoctoral fellows and graduate students. It is affiliated with the University of Basel and with the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research. Our goal is to exploit new technologies to further our understanding of the basic molecular mechanisms that underlie health and disease.

The FMI focuses on the fields of Epigenetics, Mechanisms of Cancer and Neurobiology. With the help of its cutting cutting-edge technology platforms the FMI has gained international recognition as a center of excellence in these fields and in innovative biomedical research.

The Friedrich Miescher Institute contributes to the training of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Our students and postdoctoral fellows are not only exposed to the latest in molecular and genetic approaches, but are constantly encouraged to examine the biomedical application of their discoveries.

Situated in Basel, Switzerland, the FMI offers an outstanding scientific and cultural environment in the center of Europe.
