The Mainz Institute of Multiscale Modeling (M3ODEL) at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany, brings together researchers from different areas in natural and life sciences with researchers in mathematics and computer science. Our research follows two main thrusts: developing multiscale models informed by simulation and experiment, and pushing the boundaries of computational methods.
The Johannes Gutenberg University has a nationally and internationally visible research profile, with particular strengths in the natural sciences and medicine. Disciplines in which especially outstanding results have been achieved include the particle and hadron physics with the PRISMA+ Cluster of Excellence (Precision Physics, Fundamental Interactions and Structure of Matter), the materials science, the translational medicine, and the top-level and high-potential research areas funded through the Research Initiative of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate. All these are evidence of the diversity and interdisciplinary nature of the work being undertaken at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.
