The Chair for Molecular Animal Breeding and Biotechnology - LMU Munich - is highly interested in translational medicine. It uses genetic engineering for tailoring pigs as models of human diseases (diabetes, rare monogenic diseases) and as donors of cells, tissues and organs for xenotransplantation. The institute is located at two sites - in Munich-Oberschleißheim as well as at the Gene Center in Munich-Großhadern. It is closely associated with the Center for Innovative Medical Models (CiMM).
