AG Leif Dehmelt:

Our research group studies the mechanisms, by which neurons develop their complex shape. We are focused on the microtubule and actin cytoskeleton and in particular on associated effectors and upstream regulatory signaling systems. To gain a better understanding of the complex spatio-temporal regulation of the neuronal cytoskeleton and how this affects the neuronal shape, we are using a combination of high-content screening technologies, live-cell imaging and computational modeling.

We are closely associated with the Department for Chemical Biology of the TU Dortmund and the Department for Systemic Cell Biology at the Max-Planck-Institute for molecular Physiology. The combined association to both institutes offers a unique interdisciplinary working environment for studying the neuronal cytoskeleton.
