Basic research in the institute of Neuropathology which is headed by Marco Prinz is focused on Neuroimmunology, innate immunity and inflammation. Knockout mouse models are used to elucidate molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying major diseases like multiple sclerosis or Alzheimer disease. A strong interest on the molecular level lies in the analysis of in vivo functions of components of the ubiquitin system, Ubiquitin deconjugating enzymes and Ubiquitin like proteins.
