The Institute of Agroecology was founded in 1993, when the course of study 'agriculture and environment' started at the faculty of agriculture, University of Göttingen. Since 2006 the section of Argoecology is a part of the new Department of Crop Science. Teaching includes basic lectures (agroecology and conservation biology), advanced courses (ecology of the agricultural landscapes), and interdisciplinary education at the centre of nature conservation, so students of agriculture, biology, forestry and geography do their Master or Doctoral thesis in agroeocology. Agroecological analyses focus on plant and animal communities, food web interactions, and conservation biology in temperate and tropical agricultural landscape and agroecosystems.
