Botanical Institute

Our faculty is committed to teaching and mentoring students, and enjoys a worldwide reputation for excellence in contemporary basic plant research. Using state-of-the-art techniques, research projects at our institute address current challenges in plant sciences, including areas of cell- und developmental biology, molecular physiology,  the evolution of plants and responses of plants to the biotic and abiotic environment.
At the Botanical Institute students and scientists acquire the necessary high-end technological and methodological skills to be successful in the field of plant biology. In addition, our faculty strives to provide students with the analytical knowledge required to interpret novel information as the world of plant biology continues to change. Our institute is embedded in extensive collaborations with other renowned institutions world-wide. Joint graduate schools and research programs within the University and the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research located nearby have made Cologne an internationally highly recognized center for Molecular Plant Sciences.
