Germ cells give rise to the gametes - sperm and egg. From the site of their specification, the germ cells migrate and cluster in the region where they associate with somatic  cells to form the gonad.  We are using germ cells for studying general questions in cell and developmental biology, such as the mechanisms governing cell specification, fate maintenance and migration. Our primary model organism is the zebrafish embryo, where we can study these processes from the earliest stages of development.
