Doctoral Candidate (PhD) / Junior Research Assistant (all genders) – Vascular Biomedicine
Activities and responsibilities
The Vascular Biology research group, led by Prof. Maike Frye, investigates the differential regulation of lymphatic and blood endothelial cells during vascular development as well as in (cardio)vascular and lymphatic diseases. In this project, newly identified endothelial molecules will be functionally characterized. To achieve this, we use 3R-compliant primary cell culture systems, transgenic mouse models, patient samples, and cutting-edge microscopy techniques, including live-imaging, super-resolution microscopy, and atomic force microscopy (AFM).
The ideal candidate is highly motivated, curious, and eager to work in an international team of scientists and clinicians to explore new hypotheses and insights relevant to human diseases. Experimental laboratory experience is recommended but not required.
Your tasks:
- Writing and presenting your research results
- Cell culture work, fluorescence and confocal microscopy, atomic force microscopy, RNA and protein isolation, immunoblotting, qRT-PCR, ELISA, and more
- Critical thinking and an analytical mindset
- Planning and execution of in vitro and animal studies
As part of this project, a dissertation in the natural sciences (Dr. rer. nat./PhD) is to be completed. The position is to be filled with 65% of the regular weekly working hours for an initial period of three years in accordance with WissZeitVG.
Qualification profile
- Completed scientific university degree in biology, pharmacy, chemistry, biochemistry or a comparable natural science degree program
- Interest in scientific issues, in particular the cardiovascular and lymphatic system
- Good knowledge of English and MS Office, ideally knowledge of iAdobe Ilustrator, ImageJ and GraphPad Prism
- Ability to work in a team, commitment, flexibility, independence, coordination and organizational skills
