Head of R&D (m/w/d)

The Role

The Head of R&D will establish and lead the Freiburg team in the development of recombinant proteins.

The successful applicant will support the implementation of the New Product Research and Development (NPRD) roadmap in collaboration with Product Management and strategic customers and will support the development of new methods and technologies that help to continually improve the efficiency of processes in production.

The role is central to the company’s strategy to transform from a supplier of native proteins and become the leading supplier of recombinant proteins.

In this role your responsibilities will include:

Lead the design and development of new recombinant proteins to bring high performance reagents to market
Develop recombinant protein expression strategies for different expression systems by evaluating and selecting designs and turning them into a recombinant reality
Guide the identification and establishment of new technologies for the development and continuous improvement of our products and processes
Ensure that all products developed in Freiburg meet the standards required by ISO 13485
Assure that all required safety standards are met in the development area, especially those required for working with recombinant material
Support the group's scientists in their role as project leaders in the development of new products.
Lead and coach a multidisciplinary high-performing team of scientists in working cross-functionally toward development goals.

You should apply if:

You have a PhD and management experience in an industrial R&D setting (IVD, Life Science, Medical/ ISO13485 preferred).
You can demonstrate strong communication skills (German and English).
Expertise in Recombinant protein production with proven skills in troubleshooting and innovating to overcome technical challenges.
You have experience in expression systems (bacterial, yeast, baculovirus/insect cells, and the required steps (including construction methods for expression vectors) to realise recombinant protein expression.
You have proven experience of leading scientific projects, predicting timelines and communicating issues and potential delays.
