The Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology of the Medical Faculty of the Ruhr University Bochum is seeking to fill the position of a part-time (65%) scientific assistant (m-w-d) as soon as possible. The position is initially limited to 3 years. Remuneration will be paid up to salary group 13 TV-L, depending on the tasks assigned and fulfillment of the personal requirements.
The Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology, headed by Professor Ralf Benndorf, is involved in translational research projects in the field of pharmacological cardiovascular and cancer research and is responsible for teaching pharmacology and toxicology to students of human medicine within the Faculty of Medicine.
The candidate will investigate questions of personalized cancer research in the field of colorectal carcinoma and tumor-associated angiogenesis using cell cultures and immunosuppressed mouse lines. The candidate must be willing to familiarize him/herself with cell/molecular biological, microscopic, biochemical and animal experimental techniques. The possibility of a doctorate is given.
Pharmacist, biologist, biochemist as a PhD student in the field of personalized cancer research
Activities and responsibilities
- Implementation of cell biological (e.g. tumor cell growth, tumor cell migration), protein biochemical and molecular biological methods with a thematic focus on “personalized cancer research”
- Stable transduction of cancer cell lines with the help of lentiviral vectors
- CRISPR-Cas9-mediated gene knockout in cancer cell lines
- Participation in animal studies on the topic of “pharmacogenetic aspects of cancer growth, metastasis and cancer-associated angiogenesis”
- Histologic and immunohistologic analyses
- Documentation, evaluation and presentation of results and writing of publications
Qualification profile
- Completed studies in pharmacy, biology or biochemistry or a comparable degree program
- Experience in cell biology, protein biochemistry and molecular biology techniques is an advantage
- Authorization to carry out animal experiments independently (proven by FELASA category B certificate) is an advantage
- Excellent German language skills and very good English language skills are required
