The group of Grassland Science at the Faculty of Agriculture of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen is going to fill the position of a
 
PhD student
 
This position is intended to be occupied by 01.02.2015, with a limited contract of 3 years. Salary: 50% of pay grade 13 TV-L.
 
Project description
The interdisciplinary joint research project “Novel genotypes for mixed cropping to improve sustainable land use”, subproject ‘Plant traits for mixed grass swards” aims at investigating trait expressions of grassland plants that contribute to mixture benefits over monocultures. A range of white clover populations will be grown in pure sowings and in mixtures with ryegrass and a grassland forb and detailed measurements on yield formation and crop physiology in relation to plant traits will be carried out. The results will form the basis for future breeding for mixture benefits of grassland species. Data will be acquired in a multi site field experiment. The research is closely related to that of other groups working on the same experiment and under participation of a forage plant breeding company.
 
Your profile
  • highly qualified master or diploma in agriculture, biology, environmental sciences or a related discipline
  • experience in field research in agricultural (crop science, agronomy, breeding) or ecological sciences
  • good knowledge of statistical analysis methods
  • ability to work both independently and as a part of a team, good organization and communication skills, high analytical and conceptual capabilities
  • advanced knowledge of English
