The German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) is a center of excellence within the Helmholtz Association that performs translational research on Neurodegenerative Diseases. The center includes nine high-performing sites in Berlin, Bonn, Dresden, Göttingen, Magdeburg, Munich, Rostock/Greifswald, Tübingen and Witten.

Within the research group “Translational Neurodegeneration” (Prof. Dr. Höglinger) in Munich we offer a

Master Project – Code 2029/2014/9

Areas of investigations/research focus of the research group of Prof. Höglinger:

We aim to tightly link disease-oriented basic science with clinical research, in an attempt to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic options for neurodegenerative diseases, based on new scientific concepts. Therefore, we transfer results from clinical research to refine experimental disease models (from bed to bench). Inversely, we aim to translate results from experimental research into innovative clinical trials (from bed to bench).
Our work focuses on akinetic-rigid Parkinson syndromes:
  • Diseases with pathological aggregation of alpha-synuclein (e.g. Parkinson’s Disease, Dementia with Lewy Bodies, Multisystem Atrophy)
  • Diseases with pathological aggregation of Tau-protein (e.g. Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Cortico-Basal Degeneration)
For more details, please visit our website and have a look at our articles: http://www.dzne.de/en/sites/munich/research-groups/hoglinger.html

Our group is a fully equipped laboratory, integrated into the German Centre for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) at the Feodor-Lynen-Strasse 17 in the advanced biotechnology campus of LMU Munich. The infrastructure to complete the proposed project for our experiments is fully available. Thus, the start of the project is possible immediately.
Especially, the following infrastructure is available:
  • Fully equipped laboratories for conducting animal experiments, space for operations, and space for the behavioral studies
  • Histology: cryomicrotome, materials for dyeing slice preparations
  • Biochemical facilities for, PCR, qPCR, Western blot
  • Microscopic features, fluorescence, life cell imaging, laser capture microdissection, stereo-microscope investigator, confocal microscope
