This job ad is out of date. Find related Jobs here.

Neuropsychopharmacology is a newly established laboratory, fully funded and well equipped, performing cutting-edge neurophysiology (Video/EEG radio telemetry, slice electrophysiology with Multi Electrodes Arrays, Auditory Brain Response recordings, animal behavior and neuro-molecular biology).

The research focus of our group is on the electrophysiological role of various voltage-gated Ca2+ channels and in Alzheimer’s disease, Schizophrenia and Epilepsy. The ongoing experimental projects are aimed at further defining and understanding neurological diseases by electrophysiological methods.

In that context we offer a Master’s thesis student position for evaluating a newly established neonatal pilocarpine epileptic rat model. The model is easy to handle and yields seizures in the hippocampus and motor cortex on a reproducible manner. qRT-PCR´s,  Western blots as well as immunohistochemistry would be used to describe changes that taking place in histological and molecular level during the development of the epileptic phenotype. The project is in co-operation with Prof. Ruediger Koehling, Oscar-Langendorff-Institut for Physiology University Hospital Rostock. The position is available in November 2014.
