The Friedrich Schiller University Jena (FSU) together with the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology – Hans Knöll Institute (HKI) – is establishing an

Independent Carl Zeiss-Junior Research Group “Synthetic Microbiology”

and invites applications for the

Group leader position.

The successful candidate should be an excellent, highly motivated scientist with leadership abilities preferentially in the area of natural products. A Ph.D. and postdoctoral research experience demonstrating the ability to perform research in the field of genetics, microbiology or biotechnology of natural products at the highest level are essential. Future projects should involve modern techniques of synthetic microbiology and innovative biotechnological methods with the aim to produce novel bioactive compounds. Multidisciplinary work is particularly welcomed.

The independent Junior Research Group will be integrated in the newly established Chair for Biotechnology with a joint appointment at the Institute of Microbiology, FSU Jena, and the Biotechnology Centre at the HKI. The group will be physically located at the HKI, embedded in an outstanding scientific environment with state-of-art research facilities. The successful candidate will be asked to interact with the highly integrative network of scientists in related areas, and in particular the excellence graduate school, Jena School for Microbial Communication (JSMC; www.jsmc.uni-jena.de) and the Jena Center for Microbial Communication.

The Junior Research Group, including personnel and consumables, is funded by the Carl Zeiss Foundation, the FSU Jena and the HKI for five years, with potential extensions for two years twice depending on positive evaluations.
