Cell Biologist as Team Leader - Cell Line Engineering (m/f/d)

Alvotech is a global biopharmaceutical company dedicated to become one of the leaders in the biosimilar. Alvotech is an independent sister company of the international pharmaceuticals company Alvogen. The company is headquartered in Reykjavik, Iceland, and has an increasingly global presence and a broad network of partners around the world.

Alvotech has six key biosimilar molecules in development and a new state-of-the-art manufacturing plant for development, clinical manufacturing and commercial supply. Alvotech is investing over $500 million in the development of its pipeline and facility.

Team Lead Cell Line Engineering (m/f/div)

Main Function:

As a member of the cell line development department, you are responsible for setting up the cell line engineering team. This work involves modificationand optimization of our expression vector and host cell line platform (CHO, SP2/0 and NS0) interms of productivity and quality, respectively. Additional responsibilities outside the cell line engineering work may include the generation of stable cell lines depending on the progress of the core projects. We are seeking a highly motivated and talented scientist with strong cellular and molecular biology expertise who is able to plan and implement challenging projects independently and purposefully. A successful candidate should possess strong core competency in cell line engineering using state of the art technology. This positionis primarily lab-based and offers the opportunity to impact a growing portfolio of different biosimilar programs in a fast-paced and innovative R&D environment.

As the cell line engineering group will be set up from scratch, the job offers not only interesting scientific aspects but also managerial and strategic topics in how best to build a successful new team within the organization.

Most important tasks of the job:

  • Lead cell line engineering including establishment of modified host cell lines (CHO, SP2/0 and NS0) for highly efficient and cost-effective expression of therapeutic proteins
  • Generation of mammalian cell lines to produce recombinant proteins, monoclonal antibodies, and other molecules, including transfection, selection, screening and cloning to generate stable GMP cell lines
  • Responsible for data processing, interpretation and reporting
  • Effectively communicate results through written accurate scientific reportsand oral presentations to multidisciplinary teams
  • Actively pursue new methods and technologies designed to improve and stream-line the activities of cell line development

  • PhD in biochemistry, cell biology, bioengineering or other relevant lifescience disciplines with applicable academic or industrial experience incell line engineering, ideally with CHO cells or MS with 5 year of industrial experience incell line engineering and development
  • Extensive cell line engineering and molecular biology skills including extensive hands-on experience in CRISPR/Cas9 and PCR/qPCRbased approaches in the context of genomic editing
  • Vast experience with mammalian cell cultures (e.g. CHO, SP2/0and NS0) and thorough knowledge of cultivation techniques
  • Ability to independently and rapidly make decisions based on data, scientific knowledge and sound judgement
  • Proven capabilities in leading employees
  • Proficiency in scientific data analysis/statistical software and experience with Design of Experiment is a plus
