A PhD position in the field of adult murine hematopoietic stem cell research is available in the research group of Dr. Janzen at the Biomedical Center, University of Bonn Medical School, Germany.

The hematopoietic stem cells are the best characterized adult tissue specific stem cells and are used in treatment for many decade. However, many aspects of how these cells are regulated at the molecular level are still poorly understood. Especially the mechanism that regulates different lineage maturation programs are largely unknown. However, impaired maturation of hematopoietic cells are cause of multitude of hematological diseases. Our lab aims to investigate how some transcription factors, which are important in embryonic development, are involved in maturation processes during hematopoietic cell differentiation, thereby identifying novel therapeutic targets in hematopoietic malignancies. We utilize a broad range of assays including 8-12 color flow cytometry, bone marrow transplantation assays using transgenic animals  and gene expression profiling to analyze key regulators of hematopoietic differentiation. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and team-oriented with a strong interest in stem cell research. Experience with flow cytometry and common molecular biology techniques is advantageous. Experience in breeding and handling of genetically modified mice would also be useful. Candidates should hold a diploma or a master’s degree in Molecular Medicine, Biology, Pharmacy, Biochemistry or Veterinary Medicine. We offer a friendly and collaborative lab environment, supportive mentoring and a modern, well-equipped laboratory.

The position will start on May 1st 2015 or later, upon mutual agreement, and is initially available for 3 years (funded by the DFG). Salary will be according to the DFG guidelines. The University of Bonn is an equal opportunities employer. Preference will be given to suitably qualified women or persons with disabilities, all other considerations being equal.

Please submit your application (including CV, a motivation letter stating research and career interests, copies of education certificates, and two letters of recommendation) via email (janzen.viktor@gmail.com) in a single PDF file by March 15, 2015.
