Project 1 – "Immuno-Pathogenesis of Influenza-Induced Asthma Exacerbation"; Main supervisor:

The Leibniz Center Infection (LCI) is a strategic alliance of the North German Leibniz InstitutesBernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM), Research Center Borstel – LeibnizCenter for Medicine and Biosciences (FZB) and Heinrich Pette Institute, Leibniz Institute for Experimental Virology (HPI). The LCI focuses on global infections and links the complementary research of the three Leibniz institutes: tropical and emerging infections at BNITM, bacterial infections of the lung at FZB and viral diseases at HPI (www.lc-infection.com).
The alliance provides a three-year structured graduate program on “Infection”. This interdisciplinary program offers ambitious training and research opportunities in the fields of Parasitology, Immunology, Bacteriology, Virology, Infection Biology, and Molecular-, Cellular- and Structural Biology as well as Pathobiology of Infectious Disease.
Graduates will work on cooperative projects from two LCI institutes in joint supervision. It is mandatory for each graduate to conduct at least 3 months of the research at the cooperating institute.

The project will be hosted by the Junior Research Group „Asthma Mouse Models“ at the FZB (www.fz-borstel.de) and mentored in close collaboration with the HPI (www.hpi-hamburg.de).
We are looking for highly motivated candidates with very good command of the English language. Candidates should hold a master’s degree (or equivalent) in Natural or Life Sciences.
Starting date will be July 1st, 2015 or later. Salary will be according to German TVöD (salary agreement for public service employees). Applications from handicapped persons will be favored when all other qualifications are equal. The LCI institutes are equal opportunity employers.
