The Institute of Hygiene and Microbiology at the University of Wuerzburg
(group Prof. Dr. U. Vogel) has an opening for a
PhD Student (TV-L 13, 65 %)

The PhD position is offered within the newly funded DFG project “Characterisation of sialic acid specific O-acetyl transferases: from the neuroinvasive bacterium to the human host” and is immediately available. The DFG project is a joint project conducted in collaboration with Dr. Martina Mühlenhoff at the Medical School Hannover.  The group is experienced in genetics and function of proteins involved in capsule synthesis and modification of Neisseria meningitidis and Escherichia coli K1. Molecular interactions and functions of bacterial polysialic acid specific O-acetyltransferases will be analysed within this project, which is the continuation of a successful first funding period.
As a PhD student you will have the opportunity to become part of the Graduate School of Life Sciences (GSLS, see: http://www.graduateschools.uni-wuerzburg.de/life_sciences), which is funded by the Excellence Initiative of the German government. The position is available for a period of three years.
Severely disabled persons will be hired preferentially over others with equal qualifications.
The deadline for application is February 28th, 2015.
