The Center for Cardiovascular Research, located in central Berlin at the Charité
Campus Mitte, is inviting for applications for a Ph.D.-position, funded by the German
Research foundation (DFG), starting Autumn 2014. We seek enthusiastic and highly
motivated Ph.D.-students to conduct translational research on epigenetic control of
smooth muscle cell plasticity in vascular disease (Althoff et al, J Exp Med 2012). We
employ molecular biology and genetics to characterise epigenetic mechanisms and
their functional relevance in vitro as well as in vivo in established murine disease
models and human vascular samples (cooperation with the biobank of the German
Center for Cardiovascular Research, DZHK). The ultimate goal is to deduce and
validate pharmacological targets. Techniques include ChIP, genetic lineage tracing with
established mouse strains, bioluminescent reporter assays, FACS, cell culture, RNA
interference, histology and cardiovascular pharmacology as well as ChIP sequencing
(cooperation with the Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine) and SILAC mass
spectrometry (cooperation with the Max-Planck-Institute for Heart and Lung Research).
Skills in molecular biology and cell biology are required. Knowledge in epigenetics and
epigenomics as well as experience with transgenic mice is highly appreciated.
Candidates should have an excellent command of written and spoken English.
Salary will be according to German employment rules (E13, 65%), funded by the DFG.
The contract is offered for three years starting Autumn 2014.
