PhD position

 Max Planck Institute  Göttingen
We are an established, DFG-funded Emmy-Noether Research Group at the Max Planck Institute of Experimental Medicine. We offer a

PhD position (Biology, Medicine or related fields)

starting not later than October 2015.

Our research focuses on the molecular basis that allows us to perceive, encode, transmit and precisely react to somatosensory inputs. Specifically, this project will focus on elucidating the signaling networks of the mouse somatosensory system underlying the sense of touch, the least characterized mammalian sense.
The offered project combines several techniques, i.e. biochemistry and proteomics, electrophysiology, molecular biology, microscopy (including calcium-imaging in neuronal cell culture) and mouse behavioral work.
Applicants should hold an MSc (or an equivalent degree) in biological sciences or related disciplines. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate with strong interest in sensory research. The qualified candidate will benefit from working in the excellent, dynamic and international environment of the Max-Planck Institute of Experimental Medicine, which is embedded in the vivid collaborative structure of the Göttingen Research Campus.
