PhD Position at the University Kiel - Biochemical Institute-

This job ad is out of date. Find related Jobs here.

From July 2015 onwards we are interested to find a motivated new PhD-student member for our team. You should be interested in cell biology, biochemistry and medical applications. In the frame work of a DFG-funded graduate school (GRK1459: www.grk1459.de) called „Sorting and Interaction between Proteins of Subcellular Compartments“ we are interested to employ a suitable student with appropriate degree (master/diploma) in life science.

The Research Training Group is formed by scientists from the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, the Institute of Biochemistry at the University Kiel, and the Bernhard-Nocht-Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg. The general topic of the Research Training Group is sorting and transport of selected proteins within the Golgi apparatus and endosomal compartments.

The specific topic of the PhD´s research project is the characterization of LIMP-2, a fascinating lysosomal membrane protein involved in intracellular transport of lipids and proteins (see e.g. Reczek et al. 2007 Cell; Neculai et al., 2014 Nature; Rothaug et al. 2014 PNAS).

Graduate students will go through a three year curriculum of academic as well as non-academic courses in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, infectiology, microbiology, and molecular biomedicine. The Research Training Group offers a continuous educational program with lectures, practical courses, seminars, regular report meetings and an international symposium every two years.
