PhD Position for a Project entitled “Next Generation Sequencing of Antigen Receptors”

PhD Position for a project entitled “Next Generation Sequencing of Antigen Receptors”
Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel, Germany

A PhD position is available in the groups of Prof. Andre Franke (Institute of Clinical Molecular Biology) and Prof. Sebastian Zeissig (Department of Internal Medicine I) at the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel.

Our groups are interested in the genetic and immunological basis of intestinal inflammation and the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and other chronic inflammatory diseases. In a joint project, we aim to investigate mucosal T cell receptor (TCR) repertoires using next generation sequencing to identify disease-specific TCR signatures and to study their therapeutic modulation.

We seek a PhD student with expertise in next generation sequencing (NGS) and bioinformatic analysis of NGS data. Knowledge of at least one programming language (C/C++, Java, etc.) is required. Profound knowledge in Python as well as experience with R and with high performance computing clusters would be helpful. Applicants need to hold a diploma or master's degree in relevant disciplines.

The position provides an excellent opportunity to join a group of enthusiastic researchers applying complementary methods to questions of medical interest in a cross-disciplinary environment. In the Institute of Clinical Molecular Biology, the Department of Internal Medicine I, and the DFG Excellence Cluster “Inflammation at Interfaces“ we offer an exceptional research environment including state-of-the-art research and sequencing facilities and more than a decade of expertise in NGS.

The position is available for 2 years with the option to extend for 1 additional year. Work should commence at the earliest possible date. Salary is according to TV-L E13 65%.
