PhD position in computational biology/bioinformatics

PhD position in computational biology/bioinformatics
(E13 TV-G-U, 65%-part time)

The group of Dr. Kathi Zarnack is looking to a recruit PhD student in the field of computational RNA biology. The PhD student will work on a joint project with Prof. Michaela Müller-McNicoll as part of the Collaborative Research Center 902 (SFB902) "Molecular Principles of RNA-based Regulation" (subject to funding approval). The project focuses on the regulation of alternative polyadenylation and nuclear surveillance by RNA-binding proteins of the SR protein family. To address this, we develop computational approaches to deduce transcript characteristics, RBP sequence preferences and functional interrelationships from a range of genome-wide experiments, such as iCLIP and RNA-seq. The PhD student will work in close collaboration with experimental scientists in the Müller-McNicoll group and other groups from the SFB902, and will have access to high-quality first-hand datasets to pursue the research question. The position is initially limited for 1 year.

The two groups are situated at the Buchmann Institute for Molecular Life Sciences (BMLS; http://www.bmls.de/) and the Department of Biological Sciences at the Riedberg campus of the Goethe University Frankfurt.

We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a degree (diploma/MSc) in Bioinformatics or related areas and a good understanding of molecular biology. To apply, please send your application including your Curriculum Vitae, names of two referees and a motivation letter in a single PDF file to kathi.zarnack@bmls.de until 08.07.2015.

The BMLS is an equal opportunities employer and places particular emphasis on fostering career opportunities for female scientists.
