PhD Position in CRISPR-Cas9 biology and genome engineering
The department Regulation in Infection Biology (Prof. Emmanuelle Charpentier) at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research in Braunschweig (Germany) is offering a PhD Position to investigate the biochemical mechanism of RNA-mediated CRISPR-Cas9 and further develop the system for targeted genome engineering in human cells. See our recent key publications in 2011 (Nature 471:602-607), 2012 (Science 337:816-821) and 2014 (Science 346:1258096).

Area of research
The Helmholtz department “Regulation in Infection Biology” studies molecular and cellular mechanisms of regulation in processes of infection and immunity in Gram-positive bacterial pathogens. The group has recently focused on the RNA-programmable CRISPR-Cas9 endonuclease and is currently investigating the biochemistry of the system and its applications in genome editing and regenerative medicine. The project will be conducted in cooperation with the biotech company CRISPR Therapeutics.
