PhD position in metabolic engineering with microalgae

We offer a
1 PhD Position (36 months) in
Metabolic Engineering with microalgae
within an EU-funded Horizon 2020 collaborative research project. The project start is scheduled for 08/2015. The industry-led consortium comprises world-leading car manufacturers, an oil company as well as academic research institutions from 5 European countries. The project aims at the direct conversion of CO2 into hydrocarbon fuels by photosynthetic microbes acting as a sustainable catalyst and therefore represents a highly innovative approach to provide future generations with sustainable solutions for transportation fuel supply. Work at Bielefeld University will focus on the implementation of metabolic pathways for hydrocarbon production into the phototrophic microbes Chlamydomonas reinhardtii and Nannochloropsis oceanica.  
Your qualifications:
  • Excellent Master degree or equivalent in Biology, Molecular Biology or Biochemistry
  • Strong background in state-of-the-art techniques used for metabolic engineering, vector design, recombinant protein expression & purification
  • Expertise in metabolomics techniques is desirable 
  • Good command of the English language and high level of motivation
