Molecular evolution of gene regulatory networks

We are looking for a motivated and talented PhD student with training in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related fields to join our lab. Our current investigations are focusing on the shelterin complex as an important model complex in genome stability. The shelterin complex protects the linear ends of chromosomes to be recognized as double strand breaks and thus prevents unwanted DNA damage repair activities. We have recently applied proteomics to experimentally define DNA-binding proteins or the composition of protein complexes in different species. These studies will be extended to other protein complexes important in genome stability, gene regulation and epigenetics in different model systems. Experience in molecular biology, biochemistry and/or cell biology is required. Your work involves cultivation of microorganism, cell culture, cloning, recombinant protein expression, creation of knock-out cell lines, microscopy and other molecular techniques as suitable. We are looking for a student with strong wet lab skills to exploit our proteomic capabilities; experience in mass spectrometry is not necessary. However, interest to master new technologies is expected. Furthermore, you have the opportunity for exciting scientific collaborations within the IMB and around the world employing quantitative mass spectrometry in biological research fields such as telomere biology, gene regulation, genome stability and epigenetics.
