PhD position in plant biochemistry

This three-year position is in the frame of a Network Research project funded by the Leibniz Association. The overall objective of the project is to identify substances and their biosynthesis from St-John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum) that are candidates for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

The specific goal of the PhD will be first to establish transcriptomes of various tissues of St John’s wort, in particular the glands involved in the production of the major classes of secondary metabolites in this species. This transcriptome data combined with metabolomics will then be mined to identify and characterize genes and enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of candidate substances using both in vitro and in vivo assays.

We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a background in plant biochemistry and/or molecular biology. Prior experience with analysis of transcriptomics data is a plus. Rigor and precision in the laboratory as well as excellent communication skills are required. Candidates should hold a Master’s degree in biochemistry/molecular biology or related fields.

The salary and social benefits are based on federal state standards (TV-L).
