PhD Position in Plant Molecular Biology (Infection/Peroxisome Biology)

Universität Hamburg invites applications for a Research Associate in accordance with § 28 (1) of Hamburg's Higher Education Act (HmbHG*). The position commences on August 1st 2015.

It is remunerated at the salary level TV-L 13 and calls for 50 percentage of the regular weekly work hours** of work per week.
The short-term nature of this contract is based upon § 2 of the Academic Short-Term Labor Contract Act (WissZeitVG). The initial fixed term is three years.

Associates will be expected primarily to teach and conduct research. The associate will also have the opportunity to pursue further academic qualifications, in particular a doctoral dissertation. At least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the associate's own academic work.

Area(s) of Responsibility:
The research associate shall investigate important aspects of plant infection and peroxisome biology. The function of novel peroxisomal proteins in pathogen defence shall be investigated by a broad set of methodologies including expression analysis (real-time PCR), microscopy (fluorescence and confocal microscopy), reverse genetics and structural biology. The tasks of the research associate include participation in teaching in the department of 2 semester hours per week.

A university degree in a relevant subject. A M. Sc. degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a closely related subject is prerequisite for employment. Experience in Arabidopsis growth and analyses, bacterial pathogen assays, transient and stable protein expression in plants and bacteria as well as good theoretical and practical knowledge in molecular biology, bioinformatics, microscopy and molecular genetics are advantageous.
