A DFG-funded Ph.D. position at the Institute of Pathology is open to investigate c-Myc-driven signaling pathways in colorectal cancer.
  • Position requirements: Candidates should hold a degree MSc in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, experience in cellular and cancer biology
  • Specifically, a positive feedback loop connecting the oncogene c-Myc and the deacetylase SIRT1 will be studied using mouse models and in vitro assays to evaluate its role for carcinogenesis and colorectal cancer progression. In the project components of the feedback loop will be investigated with particular focus on their role for immortalization, tumor metabolism, metastasis and their function in the tumor/stroma interaction.
  • The Research Group „Signaling in Colorectal Cancer“, which is headed by PD Dr. rer. nat. Antje Menssen is part of the “Deutsches Konsortium für Translationale Krebsforschung” (DKTK) and affiliated to the laboratories of the Experimental Pathology in the Institute of Pathology of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich.
  • The Institue of Pathology offers an international environment, modern facilities, opportunity to study cancer patient tissues and mouse tumor models thereby combining basic and translational research.
  • The project is embedded within the DKTK programs oncogenic pathways, stem cells in oncology and molecular diagnostics and offers also collaborative research activities with other members of the DKTK. For more information see:
