PhD Position Mathematical Models

The Max-Planck-Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in Magdeburg, Department of Bioprocess Engineering (Prof. Dr.-Ing. Udo Reichl), has an opening for a:

PhD position

The position is granted for three years with a salary according to the German pay grade and intended to conduct scientific research with the aim of acquiring a PhD. Alternatively, if greater flexibility is required, a Max Planck PhD scholarship can also be granted. An extension is possible.

Position:
The Bioprocess Engineering group develops models to describe cell growth and virus production of cell culture-based processes. This includes comprehensive experimental data sets generated in our own laboratories addressing the cell population level as well as the extracellular and intracellular metabolite level. In the project planned, the candidate analyzes the information available and explores the link between cell growth characteristics and metabolism using sophisticated mathematical models as well as advanced systems biological tools.

Your profile:
We seek for a candidate with a master's degree in biosystems engineering, biotechnology, computational biology or related engineering and natural science disciplines. Knowledge about model construction, model simulation and model analysis as well as solid experience with programming languages (MATLAB, C++) is appreciated. Moreover, the ideal candidate is highly motivated to work efficiently, self-directed and as part of an interdisciplinary team on scientific challenges.

Application:
Please submit your structured CV together with a motivation letter, copies of master and bachelor degrees, high school certificate, and personal references.

Note that applications from women are especially welcome and that the Max Planck Society is committed to employing disabled individuals and encourages them to apply.
