PhD student (Doktorand/in) in Biochemistry/Biotechnology/Bioinformatics

The interaction between transmembrane domains (TMDs) is vital to the assembly of integral membrane proteins and many cellular processes. Our group has developed novel reporter assays in Escherichia coli that can screen for TMD interactions in a natural membrane environment. This project is part of a collaboration with the Frishman lab of TU München (Chair of Genome Oriented Bioinformatics), and aims to develop and validate the first machine-learning algorithms for the prediction of TMD interactions.

We are looking for talented and highly motivated student with an above average masters degree in biochemistry/biotechnology/bioinformatics or related field of study.

The project will involve laboratory experiments (molecular biology, cellular assays) and close cooperation with bioinformaticians. Some programming will be required, with the extent depending on the applicant. We offer a interdisciplinary work environment with long-standing experience in both laboratory and theoretical methods. The position will benefit from a spacious, well-equipped laboratory and access to large scale computing facilities (SuperMUC).

Applicants should be fluent in English, and preferably German. The successful candidate should begin before 01.11.2015. Salary is according to TV-L E13 (50-65%) and is for three years.
