PhD student in cardiovascular physiology and pathophysiology

Within the group of Prof. Dr. Christian Wahl-Schott / Prof. Dr. Martin Biel at the Department of Pharmacology for Natural Sciences, LMU Munich.
The position is available starting at the earliest date possible.

Our group is interested in the role of hyperpolarization-activated and cyclic nucleotide-gated cation channels (HCN channels) in excitability and physiology of the heart. Since our discovery of HCN channels in the late nineties we have extensively studied the function and regulation of these channels in genetically-engineered mouse models. We offer exciting research projects and excellent mentorship in an excellent scientific environment with good funding and technical equipment. The methods used for the characterization of the cardiovascular phenotype of our HCN mouse models include telemetric ECG- and blood pressure measurements, in vivo and in vitro electrophysiology, Langendorff hearts, confocal imaging techniques and molecular biology.

Suitable candidates will hold a master’s degree, diploma or equivalent in pharmacy, biology or other natural sciences. We look for highly motivated PhD students with experience in cardiovascular physiology or electrophysiology. Willingness to work with laboratory mice is a prerequisite. The candidate should be well-organized, interested in independent research but also within a team environment. Fluency in English, good communication skills and capacity for teamwork are necessary. Regulations of the LMU Munich demand a final grade better than 2.5.

The contract conditions and the salary will be according to the collective labour agreement for public service employees of the federal states of Germany (TV-L E13/2).
