PhD-student position in super-resolution microscopy / mitochondrial biology

The project will be based at the MPI for Biophysical Chemistry in Stefan Jakobs' laboratory in Goettingen. The laboratory is part of the department of Prof. Stefan Hell (Noble Prize in Chemistry 2014 for super-resolution microscopy). The project involves the use of new super-resolution fluorescence microscopy technologies to study fundamental aspects of mitochondrial structure and dynamics (see for example: Jans et al., PNAS, 2013; Wurm et al, PNAS, 2011; Kukat et al, PNAS, 2011; Brakemann et al., Nature Biotech, 2011; Grotjohann et al., Nature, 2011).
You are an ambitious biologist who wants to use advanced microscopy to tackle questions in cell biology? You are also interested in molecular biology and biochemical experiments? You want to work in a team, supported by experienced PostDocs, but with a lot of freedom for own ideas?
