“Heme and Heme Degradation Products: Alternative Functions and Signaling Mechanisms“
is an established joint research project, which is funded as DFG research unit FOR 1738 since 2012. For this project we are looking for a
 
PhD student (TV-L E13/2)
 
Research areas are:
  • Preparation (cloning, recombinant expression) and purification of peptide and protein samples,
  • Initial characterisation of the samples by protein-analytical approaches,
  • Heme interaction studies,
  • Acquisition and analysis of NMR spectra for structure determination in the free and heme bound state
 
Candidates are expected to hold a Diploma/Masters degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject (e.g., chemistry, biology, molecular medicine, biochemistry), have fluent English skills in word and writing and interest in working in an interdisciplinary structural biology project. Knowledge in the areas peptide chemistry, protein-ligand interactions and/or NMR spectroscopy of biomolecules would be advantageous.
 
The contract conditions and the salary will be according to the collective labour agreement for public service employees of the federal states of Germany (TV-L). The fixed-term employment is limited to three years. Applicants should have interest for short-term exchange with the partner laboratory at the University of Bonn.
