We are one of the youngest universities in Germany and think in terms of possibilities, not limitations. In the heart of the Ruhrregion, we develop ideas of the future at our 11 faculties. We are strong in research and teaching, live diversity, support potential and are highly committed to an educational equality that has earned this name.

The University of Duisburg-Essen (Campus Essen)
Centre for Medical Biotechnology (ZMB) offers

1 Postdoc position (f/m)
(salary equivalent TV-L 13)

in Molecular Cell Biology

Qualified candidates with outstanding research potential are invited to apply to join the group of Prof. Hemmo Meyer. The project will aim at elucidating the molecular mechanisms of the VCP/p97 AAA-ATPase and the ubiquitin system in cellular processes that are relevant for aging and genomic stability with a focus on membrane traffic. State-of-the-art approaches in molecular cell biology will be applied including confocal and superresolution light microscopy, RNAi, screening and proteomics supported by advanced central facilities on site and international collaborations. (Further reading: Meyer et al., Nat. Cell Biol., 2012, 14:117-23, Ritz et al., Nat. Cell Biol., 2011, 13:1116-23, Meerang et al., Nat. Cell Biol., 2011, 13:1376-82, Ramadan et al., Nature, 2007, 450:1258-62)

The successful candidate will hold a PhD and needs to have a proven qualification in molecular cell biology with an excellent track record. Moreover, he/she has experience with advanced light microscopy, biochemistry and gene silencing in a vertebrate system. Candidates will benefit from the international and interdisciplinary research environment in our group and at the ZMB. The ZMB in Essen integrates medical research at the University Hospital and natural sciences at the Campus. The mission is to elucidate molecular mechanisms of disease and to turn this knowledge into medical progress.

The position will start as soon as possible initially for 2 years.
