The DFG-Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD) forms a network of approx. 80 research groups, working in the areas of Hematology / Immunology, Diabetes, Neurodegenerative Disorders as well as Bone Regeneration.
The CRTD explores the capacity for regeneration of the human body and aims to develop novel regenerative therapies. Therapies based on the transplantation of cells are already being performed at the CRTD with hematological stem cells. To develop such therapies, the CRTD explores mechanisms of stem cell physiology in vitro as well as in vivo using animal models such as mouse, axolotl and zebrafish.
In the junior research group of Dr. Michell Reimer “Regulation of developmental and regenerative processes in the spinal cord” a position for a
Postdoc (E 13 TV-L)
starting at January 1st 2015 is available. The position is initially limited until 31st December 2017. The Period of employment is governed by § 2 Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG).
Tasks: The project aims to study developmental and regenerative processes in the spinal cord, with an emphasis on oligodendroglia and its impact on functional recovery after lesion.
The proposed project will involve the use of small molecule screens in zebrafish embryos, genetic manipulations, advanced imaging, electrophysiology and behavioral analysis. The successful candidate will use larval and adult zebrafish to identify novel signals which increase neuronal and glial proliferation and maturation, assess the behavioral impact of demyelination after genetic ablation of mature oligodendrocytes and identify the beneficial role of oligodendroglia for functional recovery after spinal cord injury.
Requirements: The ideal candidate has a PhD degree in neuroscience, a strong background in myelin biology and/or spinal cord injury. Furthermore, successful applicants should be familiar with basic molecular biology methods including gene expression analysis by quantitative RT-PCR, microarray, DNA cloning and confocal microscopy. Fluent spoken and written English is mandatory. Applicants are expected to be creative, communicative and capable of independent analytical thinking.
