Postdoc: Phytochrome structure/function

A DFG-funden postdoc position at the Institute for Plant Physiology of the Justus Liebig University will be available in the near future.
The aim of the project is to derive an understanding of the functional mechanism underlying photoconversion and signal activation in the phytochrome family of photoreceptors. The work relies on long-standing co-operations with X-ray crystallography and MAS NMR groups which have already led to numerous prominent publications. The role of the Giessen lab is to exploit established and novel molecular-genetic methods to generate appropriate material for the structure studies and to study signalling processes themselves, focusing on Cph1 from Synechocystis 6803 as well as plant phytochromes. Candidates should posses an appropriate PhD (or equivalent), be interested in phytochrome molecular biology, physicochemical analysis of protein structure/function and/or molecular genetics as well as in the notion of entering new scientific fields, developing new methods and making discoveries. They should be proficient in written and spoken English and able to work constructively in a multinational, interdisciplinary team.
