The department Regulation in Infection Biology (Prof. Emmanuelle Charpentier) at the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research in Braunschweig (Germany) is offering a Postdoc Position to investigate regulatory mechanisms by small RNAs in Gram-positive bacterial pathogens.

Area of research

The Helmholtz department “Regulation in Infection Biology” studies molecular and cellular mechanisms of regulation in processes of infection and immunity in Gram-positive bacterial pathogens. The group has recently focused on mechanisms of regulation by RNA including the RNA-programmable CRISPR-Cas9 system and is currently investigating mechanisms of small RNAs and associated proteins in Streptococcus pyogenes at the biochemical and physiological level.
  • PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Microbiology, Immunology or related fields.
  • Experience in RNA and protein biochemistry, molecular biology, bacteriology and genetics will be considered as an advantage. Particularly prior expertise in the field of RNA biology and biochemistry is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of international and multidisciplinary consortia.
  • Ability to multi-task and to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a highly competitive field of research.
  • A proven record of publications.
  • Self-motivation and enthusiasm.
  • Good organization skills and personal initiative.
  • Very good English communication skills (written and spoken).

The position is suitable for a full-time employment.
