Postdoctoral position on the investigation of (nano) particle-cell interactions using in vitro models

Engineered nanomaterials are a class of nanoscale substances that are purpose-designed with very specific and novel properties. Just like any other new technology, nanotechnology is hampered with insecurity concerning its safe implementation. Therefore understanding the interactions between nanomaterials and human cells is of great importance for industry as well as regulatory bodies. To avoid social as well as economic drawbacks both entities depend on the development of innovative, reliable and cost efficient methods.

You will not only use but also establish methods that contribute to an improved understanding of the interaction between different nanomaterials and human cells. Your main task will be to design, execute and analyse scientific experiments in an interdisciplinary environment and in cooperation with industrial as well as academic partners. This includes summarizing your results in scientific publications and presentations on national as well as international conferences. In addition you will maintain and further complement an existing online knowledge base on nanomaterials (www.nanoparticles.info).

We are looking for a highly self-motivated researcher holding a PhD in biology, biomaterials science or a related field. You have a strong background in cell biology (primary cell culture, cell lines, advanced in vitro models), molecular biology (e.g. qRT-PCR, ELISA, Western Blotting), and/or immunology. Furthermore previous experience in flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, proteomics/genomics, bioinformatics and/or knowledge in R is a plus.

In addition you should specifically bring along:
 
  • an excellent team spirit and communication skills
  • planning and organizational skills
  • creativity as well as a focused working behaviour, with a flexible and proactive attitude towards changing and challenging needs
  • the capability for scientific writing as well as translating complex scientific topics into readily understandable texts
  • fluency in English (written and oral) is a must, German is considered beneficial
We offer a highly interdisciplinary research environment with state of the art laboratory equipment to perform industry relevant cutting-edge research. The position (100%) is immediately available and for a period of 2 years with the possibility for an extension.
