The Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing (MPI-Age) was founded in 2008 for the purpose of understanding mechanisms of healthy ageing. The research in the Institute uses different model systems to discover mechanisms that could be targeted to improve human heath during ageing. The institute is part of close network of research institutions in the Cologne-Bonn area dedicated to research on ageing and age-related disease, constituting a vibrant and collaborative environment for research.
We are looking for a full-time
Scientific Coordinator (m/f job code 21/2014)
This post is available from the 1st of December 2014.You will support the head of the institute and other scientists to carry out the scientific mission. You will undertake science-related duties such as overseeing the core facilities, assisting with lab set-up, facilitating communication within the institute and between the institute and outside bodies and giving public presentations on behalf of the Institute. You will be familiar with the scientific projects executed at the MPI-AGE and able to speak and write about them, in both English and German, at a general level.
Your duties will include:
  • Preparing reports for the scientific evaluation of the institute in English
  • Supporting the project teams and research groups in science administrative matters
  • Overseeing internal and external communications
  • Acting as point of contact for national and international scientific organisations, cooperation partners and sponsors
  • Coordinating regional research cooperation
  • Liaison with the institute’s core facilities and graduate programme
  • Coordinating PR-activities in the institute
  • Coordinating large equipment requests and trials in conjunction with the administration
  • Coordinating scientific facilities and renovation
Your qualifications:
  • You have a PhD in biology or an equivalent qualification in the field of life sciences and practical experience in science management, especially project management.
  • Knowledge of the German and European spectrum of research funding
  • The ideal candidate is highly organised and an excellent coordinator, motivated and flexible. You are reliable, efficient and proactive in your work.
  • We require an excellent oral and written command of English (on native speaker level).
The employment contract is based on contracts for the civil service (TVöD, Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst, E13). Initially this position is limited for two years.
