For this network, we invite applications for a:

Doctoral position in Cyanobacterial Ecology
(Salary Scale 13 TV-L, 50 %)

The successful candidate will play a central role in the subproject: Harmful Cyanobacterial Blooms (HCBs). Reservoirs and dams used for hydropower or drinking water supply are subject to major anthropogenic and environmental influences potentially favouring HCBs. Aim of this subproject is to explore the physico-chemical and biological factors favouring cyanobacterial bloom formation in reservoirs to understand the governing processes and to provide the basis for future monitoring and management strategies that help to prevent the proliferation of HCBs.

Your profile: The successful candidate holds a MSc (or equivalent) degree in ecology, biochemistry or environmental sciences with focus on organismic interactions. Applicants should have a solid background and deep interest in ecological research. Expertise in cyanobacterial research, especially in investigating trophic interactions between cyanobacteria and potential grazers (zooplankton, macrozoobenthos), is an asset. As this project involves field- and laboratory work in intense collaboration with other project partners, applicants should be keen to work in a team as well as embrace fieldwork. Applicants should have good working and communication skills. English language proficiency (spoken and written) is required; knowledge of the German language is not mandatory but will be helpful especially during the fieldwork.

We offer: The appointment is for 36 months and will start as soon as possible. The candidate will have access to state of the art facilities and instrumentation, and will work within an interdisciplinary team of researchers consisting of ecologists, toxicologists, environmental physicists, engineers, and social scientists. The place of work will be the University of Konstanz, a friendly and international working environment offering attractive surroundings and high quality of living.

The University of Konstanz has been certified as a family-friendly institution by the Hertie Foundation and is committed to further the compatibility of work and family life.
