Doctoral research fellow (m/f/d)

to study the paracrine roles of the endothelial hormone C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP)

Activities and responsibilities

We are seeking exceptional and highly motivated candidates for our research in the field of vascular biology and signal transduction particularly focusing on novel aspects of an endothelial hormone and its cyclic GMP-mediated signalling (Physiol Rev. 2016;96:751; Circulation. 2018;138:494; HYPERLINK "https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=spiranec+spes+kuhn" \o "Arteriosclerosis, thrombosis, and vascular biology." Arterioscler Thromb Vasc Biol. 2020;40:159).

Qualification profile

Applicants should have completed studies in biology, (hum. or vet.) medicine, pharmacy or a related field in natural sciences, good knowledge of basic molecular biology and/or cardiovascular functional analyses, enthusiastic interest in cardiovascular research and the goal to obtain a PhD or a related degree.

The overall goal of this dissertation is to dissect the significance and therapeutic potential of CNP/cyclic GMP signalling in the regulation of lung vascular remodelling, with a special focus on fibroblasts and vascular pericytes. The multidisciplinary approach will utilize a variety of methods including molecular biology, biochemistry, high-end microscopy and functional analyses in novel genetic mouse models and relevant cell culture systems.

The project will be developed with a network of Würzburg scientists and clinicians linking their expertise and infrastructure for investigating the mechanisms of cardiovascular cell-cell interactions, and molecular and functional imaging of these interactions (see Comprehensive Heart Failure Center at https://www.ukw.de/clinical-profile-centers/comprehensive-heart-failure-center-chfc). The Institute of Physiology is part of this network and offers excellent laboratory space and modern techniques which allows to answer scientific questions in an interdisciplinary manner.
