Ph.D. Student - cell biology, molecular biology or immunology

The Research Division of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the University Hospital Essen is currently seeking a

Ph.D. student
(E13 TV-L / 50 %)

The pay grade classification depends on the personal and collective legal requirements. The Employment is provided for the duration of a third-party funded project for a period of 36 months.
 
Your qualifications
We are seeking a candidate with a completed academic degree in the natural sciences or life sciences (Master or Diploma) and basic experience in the fields of cell biology, molecular biology or immunology. Solid scientific English skills are required. Candidates, who can provide proof for a presentation of their work at international conferences or via published papers/abstracts are preferred.
 
About us
In our group you can expect a good working atmosphere and lively research environment at the interface of basic science and clinical medicine. We offer a wide spectrum of methods ranging from molecular biology, immunology and experimental animal models to patient material and high-end imaging. The thematic focus of our work is the immunological tumour-host interaction and the immunobiology of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs).
 
The project is part of a collaborative grant aiming at the characterization and use of therapeutic antibodies for cancer therapy. In your project you will investigate the therapeutic activity of novel antibodies directed against central molecules of the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. You will also develop assays and tools to analyze the capacity of novel antibodies to activate and direct immune cells against tumor target cells.
 
The doctorate will have the opportunity of membership and collaboration within the Graduate School of Biomedical Science (BIOME) and thus benefit from its structured Ph.D. lecture and seminar program as well as having interdisciplinary interaction with other graduates within the BIOME network.
