PhD in Evolutionary Genimics

The available amount of new generation sequencing data and the ease to generate new data combined with state of the art statistic analyses offer exciting prospects to study evolution and adaptation. To understand the relationship between genomic markers and phenotypes, genome-wide association mapping (GWAS) has become a standard tool. We offer a PhD position in this exciting field that is focused around statistical method development for GWAS and interpretation of the respective results.

Therefore, the ideal candidate should have some background in bioinformatics or statistics and possess a Master degree in any field of Biological Sciences.

The Center of Computational and Theoretical Biology is part of the Faculty of Biology at the University Würzburg. The Center is newly founded and provides excellent working conditions in a highly vibrant environment. The research group Evolutionary Genomics focused around the understanding of genotype-phenotype relationships in general and aims to link the statistical analyses with biological data. At the moment, our work is mainly focused around the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. The group is highly interactive with other groups present at the faculty and has strong overlapping interests especially with the Department of Botany.

The position is available for a period of 3 years, part time 50 % and can start immediately. The salary is according to TV-L.

Please send your applications as a single PDF file, including a cover letter describing your research interest, a full CV and the contact information of at least one referee to Prof. Arthur Korte (arthur.korte@uni-wuerzburg.de).
