The position starts as soon as possible and is for a period of three years, with the possibility of extension.

The research focus of this project will be on the characterization of molecular mechanisms underlying neuroinflammation in epilepsy. In particular, in the project we are studying (1) central pathomechanisms of limbic encephalitis to develop derived therapy strategies, and (2) the functional role of specific auto-antibodies in immune mediated limbic encephalitis. This research is based on a wide array of methods including in vitro (primary cell culture) and animal models (viral transgenic, EEG recordings) approaches, cell biological, molecular, biochemical, histological as well as imaging techniques (e. g. Pitsch et al. 2020). The study is a collaboration with Prof. A. Becker (Neuropathology, Bonn) and Prof. R Surges (head of Dept. of Epileptology).
The ideal candidate will be an ambitious, highly motivated, team-oriented graduate student with a strong interest in immunology and neurobiology. Prior research experience with animal experimentation, microscopy, or electrophysiology techniques is advantageous. Candidates should hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Neuroscience, Biological Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field. Candidates should also demonstrate aptitude in written and spoken English.
