PhD position - Autoimmune liver inflammation

We offer a PhD student position within the DFG-funded Clinical Research Group 306 “Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis”:
Influence of microbiota and bile acids on the pathogenesis of autoimmune liver inflammation in PSC
Salary according to TV-KAH E13 (65 %)
The liver has a unique capability to induce immune tolerance to hepatic antigens; however, owing to yet unclear conditions, hepatic tolerance can be broken, enabling the development of severe autoimmune diseases. Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis  (PSC) is a severe autoimmune disease affecting the bile ducts. The offered position will investigate the immunological pathogenesis of the disease aiming at translation into improved treatment strategies. This project will address the link between bile acids, lipids and the microbiome in autoimmune inflammation in PSC. You will investigate the mechanisms that cause bile duct inflammation, analyse patient samples of blood, bile and tissue, and use a unique mouse model to elucidate the immune pathogenesis of PSC.
We offer participation in the integrated graduate school of our research centre providing an extensive qualification and mentoring scheme.
Applicants should hold a diploma or master degree in biology or related life sciences. Documented interest, skills and experience in immunology are welcome.
