PhD Position Molecular Epileptology

A PhD position is available at the Institute of Neuropathology (Unit Molecular Epileptology), University Bonn Medical School, Germany.

The research focus of our group is on the characterization of molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying synaptic and intrinsic plasticity under physiological and pathophysiological conditions. We are conducting our studies in vitro and in animal models utilizing technologies in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, histology as well as confocal and two-photon imaging. The major focus of the PhD project is to characterize the role of viral infections in the development of focal epilepsy syndromes.

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, team-oriented student with strong interest in neurobiology and disease pathogenesis and preferably with a background in biochemistry, cell or molecular biology. Experience with animal experimentation, microscopy or molecular biology techniques is advantageous. Candidates should hold a diploma or master’s degree in biochemistry, biology, or related areas.

The PhD position will be integrated into the THEME PhD Program of the Medical Faculty of the University Bonn. We offer supportive mentoring and a well-equipped lab.
