A PhD position (TV-L E13 65%, 3 years) is available at the Department of Dermatology, Venerology and Allergology, University Hospital Würzburg, University of Würzburg, Germany.

The research project funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) is settled within the field of signal transduction and focuses on pathways involved in the regulation of endothelial plasticity, migration and vascular maintenance as well as glucose metabolism, inflammation and tumorigenesis.

The techniques employed include, besides classical cell and molecular biological methods, retroviral gene transfer, live cell fluorescence microscopy and FACS-based analysis of proliferation and apoptosis ( J Biol Chem (2010) 285: 10163-78, EMBO Rep . (2006) 6: 866-872), methods for studying protein interaction and modification including mass spectrometry, chromatin IP, and site-directed mutagenesis ( Int J Cancer (2016), 138: 1153-62, J Biol Chem (2010) 285: 10163-78, Nature Immunol (2010) 11, 814–819), gene expression analysis by quantitative real-time PCR and Western blot, gene silencing by expression of small hairpin RNA and small-interfering RNA transfection, and the use of hemodynamic flow simulation models ( J Biol Chem (2010) 285: 26199-10, Cardiovasc Res (2015), 105: 86-95). In a translational approach we also aim to confirm our findings in murine tumor transfer models.

The successful candidate will have access to state-of the art equipment both located at the Dept. of Dermatology as well as core facilities at the adjacent Rudolf Virchow Center for Experimental Biomedicine (RVZ). The applicant further will enjoy educational support and benefits by the DFG-Excellence Initiative-funded International Graduate School of Life Sciences (GSLS) providing structured doctoral research training in an international and highly interdisciplinary research environment.
