Single-Molecule Membrane Processes on Nanopores”

The Institute of Biochemistry (www.biochem.uni-frankfurt.de) of the Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany, offers a PhD (E13 TV-G-U, 65%) for a three-year period.

Our project aims at tracing cellular membrane processes using nanofabricated nanopore chips at single-molecule resolution. The project rests on a tight collaboration with teams in Munich and Israel as well as part of the Cluster of Excellence Frankfurt – Macromolecular Complexes.

Your part will be to build up designed compartmentalized cell membrane-nanopore systems and characterize these by diverse analysis methods. The approach implies a broad spectrum of methods in biochemistry and biophysics, such as fluorescence and single molecule imaging. You will work in a lively, international, and forefront-equipped research environment, embedded in the Frankfurt life science campus Riedberg.

For this challenging project, we expect a candidate with strong interest in cell biology, membrane biophysics or chemical biology, using bottom-up integrative  nanotechnology design principles. By the way, you should have a Master´s/diploma degree in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, or life sciences.
